Jet Ski Safety
For many individuals and families looking for recreation in the summertime, a jet ski is the perfect thing. It is fun, fast, and easy to maneuver. Because of its design it can be used in shallow waters as well as deep. However, caution must be used when operating a jet ski because accidents do happen.
Always wear a Coast Guard approved life jacket when on riding the jet ski. Attach a whistle to your life jacket, so that you can call for help if necessary. Also, make sure to have the safety lanyard securely strapped to you. If you disconnect from the lanyard, the jet ski’s engine will stop. This will prevent you from having a runaway jet ski.
If you have flipped your jet ski, be very careful of other boats in the water. It is very difficult for them to see you, so you need to stay out of their way. Swim over to your jet ski and re-board it by grabbing the handle on the back of the craft. Only once you are securely and safely on the jet ski should you reattach the safety lanyard. Do not re-attach before you are in a proper sitting position and any passengers are safely onboard.
