Many bicycle riders in Philadelphia will need to make sure and follow traffic laws. Philadelphia police have recently announced that, following the deaths of two pedestrians who were killed by bicycles last month, law enforcement will begin to actively pursue and enforce bicycle laws more stringently.
A police spokesperson stated that many bicycle riders on the road do not follow all traffic laws, and that they will run stop signs, red-lights, and commit a variety of other infractions. Many of these infractions are committed because individuals believe that a bicycle can get away with it when compared to a car or other motor vehicle. The police spokesperson stated that bicycle riders have to treat their bicycle like a car and follow all traffic laws.
