Posted on August 25th, 2010 No Comments

Two AmeriCold employees were rushed to the hospital Monday morning after being trapped by machinery.

According to officials with the Manchester Police Department, a 1,000 pound dock plate trapped a worker at the East Manchester Township shipping and refrigeration company shortly after 3:10 a.m. A second worker was injured as he attempted to free the trapped employee.

Company officials explained a dock plate as “an adjustable metal ramp used to bridge the gap created between a truck and the floors of the dock when a truck had backed up for loading at the loading dock.”

Emergency response crews rushed the two men to an area hospital for treatment. One worker is listed in critical condition. The other man was treated and released.

The identities of the two men have not been released.

3 Injured When Bus Crashes into Restaurant

Posted on August 13th, 2010 No Comments

Three people were injured Tuesday morning when a bus crashed into the side of a popular Philadelphia restaurant.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, a SEPTA bus crashed into the side of Monk’s Cafe in Center City shortly after 2:00 a.m. Tuesday. The bus driver and two Delaware River Port Authority officers, who were in a police SUV that was also involved in the crash, sustained minor injuries.

Police say there were no passengers on the bus when the accident occurred, and the few patrons and employees inside the restaurant were not injured in the crash.

Investigators say they are not sure what caused the accident, but Ed Kasuba, a DRPA spokesman, said the police SUV was responding to a 911 call at the time of the crash. A spokesman for SEPTA said it appeared the bus struck the front of the restaurant after it swerved to avoid the police vehicle.

Two people were killed Monday in a Philadelphia car accident, police say.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, Reginald Dean and Teshawn Parker were killed in a crash on a Philadelphia highway Monday. Police say a BMW, driven by Victor Smith, was traveling in the northbound lanes when he apparently lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center line and struck an oncoming car.

Dean and parker were both ejected from the vehicle upon impact. They were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Smith and the driver of the other car were transported, by helicopter, to an area hospital where they are listed in serious but stable condition.

According to the police report, Smith had a “strong odor of alcohol” about him.
