Last week, a 6-year old girl from Lawrence Township, Ohio went to the hospital after her neighbor’s dog bit her. The young girl needed 35 stitches to repair injuries to her face.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, at around 8 p.m. on Thursday, a black Labrador Retriever from the neighbor’s house, which the girl had played with before, walked over to the 6-year old’s home and stood outside a sliding glass door. The girl opened the door to pet the dog, and the animal attacked, biting her face.
The 6-year old was taken to the emergency room at Children’s Hospital in Columbus. Police, the dog’s owners, and witnesses to the attack are unsure of what led the dog to bite, but they are investigating the incident.

Authorities recently reported that the death toll from the crash of the Costa Concordia cruise ship off of the Italian coast increased to 11. The ship was operated by Costa Cruises, a company owned by Carnival Cruise Lines.
Officials from the cruise ship company have blamed the fatal accident on the ship’s captain. According to the company, the captain did not follow the approved course by directing the vessel too close to the rocky shores of the Italian island, Giglio. He is currently being investigated for manslaughter.
4,200 people were aboard the ship, which crashed just hours after the cruise began last Friday evening. Rescue crews are still searching for 24 missing passengers and crew members.
Honda expands airbag defect recall to nearly 1 million vehicles
Posted on Tuesday, January 10th, 2012 at 5:49 pm
Two weeks ago, Honda announced the expansion of their recall of vehicles with the potential for airbag defects by 273,000 vehicles. Initially, Honda recalled 603,000 vehicles.
The recall involves mostly older model vehicles. Models include Civics, Accords, CRVs, Odysseys, Pilots, and Acuras. Honda has asked all of its dealers to stop selling models included on the recall list until they are tested for the airbag defect.
Investigators have found that some Honda vehicles use too much pressure to inflate the airbag, sending pieces of metal and plastic around the airbag into the air and at drivers and passengers. Honda has received reports of 12 injuries and at least 1 death related to the automobile defect.

A one-car crash near Franklin Mills Road on Wednesday night claimed the lives of two teenagers and a 20 year-old.
Law enforcement believes the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when the vehicle hit a curb and flipped several times. The 20 year-old driver and his 18 year-old friend, a recent graduate of Northeast Philadelphia High School, were both thrown from the vehicle and were not wearing seatbelts. The other passenger, a 15 year-old girl, was trapped inside and was later pronounced dead at the scene.
A witness estimated the car was traveling at least 70 to 75 mph before the driver lost control. Investigators are awaiting toxicology results to determine if alcohol was also a factor in the crash.
Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the young victims.
