Two Philadelphia police officers were injured Wednesday evening when a suspect backed his car into them.

The police officers had been pursuing a car for undisclosed reasons.  When they got out of their cruiser and approached the vehicle, it backed up into them, injuring both.  One officer fired 10 shots at the vehicle, hitting the driver as he sped off, smashing into cars.

Police arrested a suspect who had been shot in the leg, presumed to be the man in question.  Both officers and the suspect are in the hospital; while the police officers have non-life-threatening conditions, the condition of the suspect is unknown.

Dozens Injured in Philadelphia High-Rise Fire

Posted on January 8th, 2009 1 Comment

A fire in a North Philadelphia apartment high-rise Wednesday left dozens of people injured, despite being quickly contained by firefighters.

The blaze, which may have been started by a smoldering cigarette, occurred in a building where residents had grown accustomed to false alarms set off by people smoking in the hallways. Officials did not confirm the exact cause of the fire, but said that the incident was under investigation.

Firefighters responding to the scene were able to bring the fire under control in under an hour due to the building's concrete construction. The majority of the building's residents were evacuated, but are expected to be allowed to return in short order.

Careless use or disposal of cigarettes sparks countless fires every year. If you or someone you love has been injured in a fire caused by another person's negligence, you may have grounds for a personal injury lawsuit.
