Camden Man Killed in Possible DUI/OUI Crash

A Camden man was killed in a Philadelphia car accident late Tuesday.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, 50 year-old Venustiano Vidals Gonzaga was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash on Richmond Street near East Schiller Street shortly after 11:00 p.m. Tuesday. Police say alcohol or another intoxicant is believed to have been a factor in the collision.

According to the accident report, a 2009 GMC van driven by a 19 year-old man collided with Gonzaga’s 1996 Ford Windstar with such force that the minivan became wrapped around a utility pole. After hitting the minivan, the GMC van ran into another utility pole, snapping the wooden pillar, before flipping on its side.

The injured driver and a passenger, who was described as a paraplegic, were transported to Temple University Hospital for treatment. They are expected to make a full recovery.

Police say the 19 year-old van driver is being tested for driving under the influence of an intoxicant.

4 Injured in NE Philadelphia Car Accident

Four people were injured in a Philadelphia auto accident early Monday morning.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred shortly after 1:00 a.m. in the northbound lanes of the Roosevelt Boulevard. Police say the driver of a Toyota Highlander lost control of his vehicle and struck three other vehicles before the SUV rolled onto its roof.

The driver became trapped in the wreckage and had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters and medics.

Three of the injured victims were transported to Aria Hospital-Torresdale Division and one person was transported to Hanemann Hospital. The nature of the victims’ injuries is not known, but none of the injuries is considered to be life-threatening.

3 Injured in Philadelphia Car Accident

Three people were injured in a car accident Tuesday morning in the Juniata Park section of Philadelphia.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m. at the intersection of Castor Avenue and Wyoming Avenue. Police say a vehicle heading west on Castor Avenue failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the path of an northbound sedan on Wyoming Avenue.

The three people injured in the accident, a 22 year-old woman; a 41 year-old woman, and a 21 year-old man were transported by ambulance to Temple University Hospital following the accident. All three victims were listed in stable condition, as of Wednesday morning. Their identities have not been released.

The Philadelphia Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the accident.

Driver arrested in road rage killing

A Philadelphia man has been arrested for killing another driver in what is believed to be a road rage shooting.

The man, 42-year-old Donald Griffith, was involved in a minor accident with another driver, 20-year-old Jamil Ransome when he pulled a gun on Ransome and fired multiple times, hitting and killing him. The accident and shooting occurred in northeast Philadelphia on Devereaux Street.

Police arrested Griffith for murder and weapons charges.

Philadelphia Woman Killed in Single-Car Accident

A 69 year-old woman was killed on December 22 when her vehicle veered off of the road on I-80 and crashed. The cause of the accident is not yet clear.

The driver, Suzanne Goldsmith, crashed in Pinecreek Township, Jefferson County, in what appears to be a single-car accident. After leaving the road, her vehicle struck a guardrail and traveled about 40 feet down an embankment before coming to a stop. Goldsmith was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was thrown from the vehicle. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

Man Critical Following Philadelphia Pedestrian Accident

A man is in critical condition following a Philadelphia car accident early Wednesday morning.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the southbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard near Pratt Street. Police say the 20 year-old man was trying to cross the center lanes of the boulevard when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The force of the crash embedded the victim into the car’s windsheild. Firefighters at the scene extricated the man. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.

The driver stopped at the scene. No charges have been filed at this time.

Philadelphia Car Accident: 1 Killed, 1 Injured

A Philadelphia car accident Monday left one person dead and another injured.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred along Morrell Street near Crestmont in Northeast Philadelphia shortly after 12:00 a.m. Monday. Police say two men were returning home from a Flyers game when the driver lost control of the vehicle near a bend in the road. The car left the roadway, went up onto a sidewalk, and struck the face of a NovaCare building.

Fire and rescue crews worked to extricate the victims from the vehicle. Authorities say the 22 year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The 22 year-old male passenger was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment. The names of the victims have not been released.

The building was not structurally damaged and was not occupied at the time of the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

4 Injured in NE Philadelphia Crash

A car accident in Northeast Philadelphia sent four people to the hospital Monday night.

The crash occurred shortly after 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of Woodhaven Road and Knights Road, according to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department. Investigators say two vehicles collided in the east bound lanes of Woodhaven Road.

Police say a 35 year-old man, a 24 year-old woman, a 4 year-old girl, and a fourth victim were transported by ambulance to Aria Hospital – Torresdale Division following the crash. The age and gender of the fourth victim was not available. No information on the nature or extent of the victims’ injuries was immediately disclosed.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s accident reconstruction team continues to investigate the crash.

2 Injured in Newton Township Crash

Two juveniles were seriously injured in a rollover car accident in Newton Township Sunday night.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, two juveniles were riding in a Volkswagen in the 500 block of Washington Crossing Road near Saxony drive shortly after 5:00 p.m. when the accident occurred. Police say the Volkswagen was traveling northbound when it collided with another northbound vehicle in the Bucks County community.

Police did not identify the injured juveniles by name, age, or gender. Authorities say one was airlifted to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia and the other was transported by ambulance to Saint Mary Medical Center in Middletown.

The driver of the other vehicle involved was not injured, according to police. No information on the nature or extent of the hospitalized victims’ injuries was available.

Police Officers Injured in Philadelphia Car Crash

Two police officers and a civilian man were injured in a Philadelphia car accident Monday afternoon.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred shortly after 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of 56th and Media Streets in West Philadelphia. The officers were responding to a call of a person with a gun when the crash occurred, police say. According to investigators, the officers were traveling eastbound on Media Street when a civilian car crashed into the police vehicle in the middle of the intersection.

One officer was a male in his 30′s and the second was a female of unknown age. They were both transported by ambulance to Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

The driver of the car, a 23 year-old civilian man, was also transported to HUP.

All three victims are listed in stable condition.
