According to a recent survey of teen drivers by Liberty Mutual Insurance and Students Against Destructive Decisions, 68 percent of teenage drivers admit that they have narrowly avoided a car accident. 30 percent of the teens admitted to speeding when they were almost in an accident.
More than 2,000 high school students from 28 high schools across the country participated in the survey.
55 percent of the study’s participants blamed another driver or the weather as the cause of the near-accident. Another 41 percent cited distracted driving behaviors as almost causing the accident. 21 percent of teen drivers said that they were texting when the accident almost occurred and 20 percent said they were talking to passengers in their vehicle.
