The victim of a motorcycle accident involving an intoxicated driver and her family were recently awarded $7 million in a lawsuit filed against the drunk driver.

The lawsuit was filed by the victim’s mother.  According to the suit, the 45-year old woman’s daughter suffered serious and permanent injuries in a motorcycle accident in Florida in 2009.  The accident occurred when the victim was riding as a passenger on her boyfriend’s motorcycle and the defendant’s vehicle crashed into the couple.  The woman’s boyfriend was killed in the accident.

After the accident, the defendant was found guilty of DUI causing serious injuries and DUI manslaughter.

The verdict was issued to compensate for expenses related to the victim’s 24-hour nursing home care and past medical expenses.  In the accident, the woman was thrown 40 feet into the air from the motorcycle, striking a concrete pole.  She spent four months in the hospital for surgeries and rehabilitation.  Also, the woman’s teenage son was forced to move in with other family because she is unable to care for him.
