A tractor-trailer accident that occurred in 2007 and left one man seriously injury has now been settled in court and has resulted in a $23,700,000 verdict for the victim.
The accident occurred when a 39-year-old man was driving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 295 when he rear-ended another tractor-trailer. The man’s council had evidence that the tractor-trailer was pulled over onto the shoulder of the highway and then pulled into the path of 39-year-old traveling at 25 miles per hour.
The lawsuit stated that the man was negligent for stopping in an emergency shoulder and for not yielding to the other tractor-trailer by pulling into the left lane of the highway and his path. It took two hours to extricate the 39-year-old from the truck and he was transported to Medical College of Virginia to be treated.
He suffered from a traumatic brain injury, a spinal cord injury, acute respiratory failure, chest and abdominal injuries, internal bleeding, amputation of his right leg, a fractured femur, a crushed pelvis and other injuries. He required 26 operations and the suit claims that he will need further treatment for physical and psychological issues.
