2 Injured in Lancaster Co. Snowmobile Crash

Two people in Lancaster County were injured in a snowmobile crash Thursday.

According to officials with the Pennsylvania State Police, the accident occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m. Thursday in the 4000 block of Old Philadelphia Pike in Leacock Township. Police say Elmer King and John Zook were drinking and taking turns riding a snowmobile when the accident occurred.

Officials say King was on the snowmobile when he struck Zook, who was waiting for a turn to drive. King then went off the roadway and struck a mailbox, according to police. He was thrown off the snowmobile in the accident.

Both men were transported by ambulance to a hospital in Lancaster County. Hospital officials say King is in critical condition. Zook is listed in stable condition. The nature of the victims’ injuries is not known.

No charges have yet been filed in the crash.

3 Injured in Philadelphia Car Accident

Three people were injured in a car accident Tuesday morning in the Juniata Park section of Philadelphia.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred shortly after 6:00 a.m. at the intersection of Castor Avenue and Wyoming Avenue. Police say a vehicle heading west on Castor Avenue failed to stop at a stop sign and drove into the path of an northbound sedan on Wyoming Avenue.

The three people injured in the accident, a 22 year-old woman; a 41 year-old woman, and a 21 year-old man were transported by ambulance to Temple University Hospital following the accident. All three victims were listed in stable condition, as of Wednesday morning. Their identities have not been released.

The Philadelphia Police Department Accident Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate the accident.

Philadelphia Teen Apologizes for Fatal Pedestrian Accident

A surburban Philadelphia teenager wept as he apologized for reckless driving in a pedestrian crash that claimed the life of an elderly woman last fall.

According to court documents, the 17 year-old from Willow Grove was attempting a driving maneuver called “drifting” on October 12 last year in Upper Moreland Township. Prosecutors say his vehicle struck 81 year-old pedestrian Zita Egitto, who died a few days later at Abington Memorial Hospital.

The youth pleaded guilty last month to homicide by vehicle and other counts. HE began a sentence Monday at a residential youth treatment facility. The young man told the court that he thinks about the accident “every day.”

“Drifting is a maneuver in which a driver pulls on the emergency brake and turns the wheel to slide the car sideways.

Man Critical Following Philadelphia Pedestrian Accident

A man is in critical condition following a Philadelphia car accident early Wednesday morning.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred shortly after 12:30 a.m. Wednesday in the southbound lanes of Roosevelt Boulevard near Pratt Street. Police say the 20 year-old man was trying to cross the center lanes of the boulevard when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle.

The force of the crash embedded the victim into the car’s windsheild. Firefighters at the scene extricated the man. He was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.

The driver stopped at the scene. No charges have been filed at this time.

Dog Bite Lawsuit Filed in California

A woman in California has filed a dog bite lawsuit against her neighbors.

According to documents filed in Harris County District Court on Tuesday, Rose Williams claims that her neighbors, Steven and Amanda Spielman, were negligent in their handling of their dog, Jax, allowing the animal to come in direct contact with her. Williams says she was working in her garden in December of 2008 when the 69-pound hound mix bit her on the hand. The lawsuit claims the bite left Williams with “serious, debilitating physical injuries.”

Williams is seeking damages for lost past wages, physical pain, scarring, and future medical care. She is also asking the court for pre- and post-judgment interest, court costs, and all other damages incurred.

Neither Steven nor Amanda Spielman have commented on the lawsuit.

Man Sentenced in Philadelphia Hit-And-Run

A judge in Philadelphia sentenced a Ephrata man to prison for a hit-and-run crash that critically injured a Temple University student in April.

According to Philadelphia Common Pleas Court records, Judge Harold M. Kane sentenced Nicholas Hasselback Monday to three to six years in prison. Hasselback pleased guilty October 1 to aggravated assault and leaving the scene of an accident in connection with an April 11 crash on Benjamin Franklin Parkway.

The accident left 25 year-old Tony Foltz critically injured. Foltz was walking along the parkway shortly after 2:00 a.m. that night when he was struck by a white Subaru that did not stop, according to police. An anonymous tip led authorities to Hasselback.

Foltz sustained severe brain injuries and multiple broken bones. He underwent five surgeries and spent months in rehabilitation before resuming his law studies at Temple University.

Philadelphia Car Accident: 1 Killed, 1 Injured

A Philadelphia car accident Monday left one person dead and another injured.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred along Morrell Street near Crestmont in Northeast Philadelphia shortly after 12:00 a.m. Monday. Police say two men were returning home from a Flyers game when the driver lost control of the vehicle near a bend in the road. The car left the roadway, went up onto a sidewalk, and struck the face of a NovaCare building.

Fire and rescue crews worked to extricate the victims from the vehicle. Authorities say the 22 year-old male driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The 22 year-old male passenger was seriously injured and transported to an area hospital for treatment. The names of the victims have not been released.

The building was not structurally damaged and was not occupied at the time of the accident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Accident Closes Westbound I-76, One Injured

A multiple vehicle car accident in South Philadelphia resulted in at least one injury and a major backup Sunday.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, the accident occurred in the westbound lanes of the Schuylkill Expressway shortly after 4:00 p.m. Sunday. Police say a multiple vehicle accident blocked all westbound lanes of Interstate 76 and motorists had to exit at Vare Avenue.

One female was transported by ambulance to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania following the crash, according to authorities. A hospital spokesperson said the victim was listed in stable condition Sunday evening.

Lanes were closed for about an hour while emergency response crews worked to clear the scene and police investigated. Traffic was backed up four miles during the closure.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

4 Injured in NE Philadelphia Crash

A car accident in Northeast Philadelphia sent four people to the hospital Monday night.

The crash occurred shortly after 9:00 p.m. at the intersection of Woodhaven Road and Knights Road, according to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department. Investigators say two vehicles collided in the east bound lanes of Woodhaven Road.

Police say a 35 year-old man, a 24 year-old woman, a 4 year-old girl, and a fourth victim were transported by ambulance to Aria Hospital – Torresdale Division following the crash. The age and gender of the fourth victim was not available. No information on the nature or extent of the victims’ injuries was immediately disclosed.

The Philadelphia Police Department’s accident reconstruction team continues to investigate the crash.

2 Injured in Newton Township Crash

Two juveniles were seriously injured in a rollover car accident in Newton Township Sunday night.

According to officials with the Philadelphia Police Department, two juveniles were riding in a Volkswagen in the 500 block of Washington Crossing Road near Saxony drive shortly after 5:00 p.m. when the accident occurred. Police say the Volkswagen was traveling northbound when it collided with another northbound vehicle in the Bucks County community.

Police did not identify the injured juveniles by name, age, or gender. Authorities say one was airlifted to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia and the other was transported by ambulance to Saint Mary Medical Center in Middletown.

The driver of the other vehicle involved was not injured, according to police. No information on the nature or extent of the hospitalized victims’ injuries was available.
