Five Cheerleaders Killed in Firey Crash
After recently graduating from Fairport High School, five teens decided to have a sleep over at a vacation home owned by one of the girls parents.
The SUV full of teenagers had just passed a van on a two lane high way, then swerved back into oncoming traffic and collided head on with a tractor trailer.
All five of the cheerleaders were killed in the firey crash. Four of their other friends witnessed the tragedy from a car behind the victims.
According to the Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero, the driver of the SUV may have overcorrected after going too far to the right.
The SUV and tractor trailer crashed into a fence on the side of the road next to a bed-and-breakfast outside the village of East Bloomfield and caught fire. Reports state the flames from the car shooting at least 20 feet up in the air. The SUV ended up crushed and charred in a shallow ditch partially underneath the truck.
The driver of the tractor trailer walked away uninjured. |
